Home Care:
Choosing the Right Level of Caregiver
Personal Care Worker (PCW)
Personal Care Workers provide essential daily living support, including assistance with mobility, fall prevention, feeding, medication administration, toileting, bathing, changing diapers, basic stretching exercises, position transfers, accompanying medical appointments, and medication management.
Health Worker (HW)
Health Workers undergo more extensive training than Personal Care Workers. In addition to the services provided by PCWs, they can offer urinary catheter care, oxygen therapy, wound care (such as wound cleaning), peritoneal dialysis, insulin injections, stoma care (changing colostomy bags), and feeding through nasogastric tubes.
Enrolled / Registered Nurse (EN/RN)
Enrolled and Registered Nurses encompass the services of both Personal Care Workers and Health Workers, and they can provide more specialized care, including tracheostomy care, suctioning, blood draws, intravenous injections, and intramuscular injections.
Medical Escort / House Keeper (ME/HK)
Medical Escorts safely transport seniors from home to medical appointments, record appointment details, pick up medications, and accompany them back home while reporting on the day’s medical visit. They can assist with wheelchair transfers and help seniors in and out of transportation.
Housekeepers offer cooking and basic home cleaning services.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are VimCare caregivers' qualifications?
Every Vim Care caregiver brings extensive clinical experience from hospitals, nursing homes, and one-on-one care settings. They’re fully licensed by Hong Kong authorities and hold recognized professional qualifications from: The Nursing Council, Social Welfare Department, Vocational Training Council and Employees Retraining Board.
Registered Nurses (RN)
These senior nursing professionals complete a rigorous three-year training program and hold active practicing certificates from the Hong Kong Nursing Council. They’re qualified to perform complex medical procedures like gastric lavage and provide comprehensive nursing care.
Enrolled Nurses (EN)
With two years of specialized training and Nursing Council certification, our ENs work alongside Registered Nurses to deliver professional care. They excel in day-to-day medical support and monitoring.
Health Workers (HW)
Certified and registered with the Social Welfare Department’s Licensing Office, our Health Workers specialize in elderly care. They’re experts in essential medical support services, including tube feeding and stoma care.
Care Workers
These dedicated professionals complete specialized certification courses and bring hands-on experience from various care centers. They provide crucial daily support, including:
- Safe patient transfer assistance
- Personal hygiene care
- Daily living assistance
When is the right time for short term care?
Life can throw unexpected challenges our way. Whether it’s a sudden illness, an accident, or the gradual onset of conditions like dementia, caring for a loved one – or needing care yourself – can feel overwhelming. These situations often arrive without warning, leaving families unprepared and struggling to cope.
The Hidden Toll of Caregiving
When health challenges strike, they don’t just affect the person needing care. The physical demands and emotional strain can ripple through the entire family. Caregivers often find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities while dealing with:
- Physical exhaustion from round-the-clock care
- Emotional stress and anxiety
- Disrupted daily routines
- Feelings of isolation
Why consider short-term home care?
Think of short-term home care as pressing the pause button – a chance to catch your breath while ensuring your loved one receives professional care. It’s not about giving up; it’s about getting the support you need to provide better care in the long run.
Professional caregivers can step in to:
- Provide skilled medical attention
- Offer respite to family caregivers
- Create a structured care routine
- Share expert knowledge and techniques
Our dedicated case officers understand that every situation is unique. They carefully consider:
- Your loved one’s specific care needs
- The caregiver’s expertise and experience
- Your family’s preferences and schedule
- The level of medical support required
Remember: Seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness – it’s a smart strategy for sustainable caregiving. Short-term home care can provide the breathing room you need while ensuring your loved one receives professional, compassionate care.
Can caregivers do caring, chores, or cooking?
We advocate for one-on-one professional and dedicated care services for those in need, ensuring they receive proper care and providing peace of mind for their families. In addition to general caregiving tasks, our caregivers can assist with preparing simple meals but may not be able to handle household chores.
Is hiring professional caregivers expensive?
We believe quality care should be accessible to all families. Whether you’re looking for short-term support or long-term care solutions, our transparent pricing structure adapts to both your care needs and budget constraints. Our hourly-based pricing system includes:
- Standard daytime care rates
- Adjusted rates for night shifts
- Special holiday coverage options
Medical Escorts vs. Personal Care Workers
Medical Escort
Primary Role: Safely accompany seniors to medical appointments.
Responsibilities: Transport seniors from home to hospitals or clinics. Record details of medical visits and assist with medication pickup. Provide support during appointments and report outcomes. Assist with wheelchair transfers and boarding vehicles.
Personal Care Worker (PCW)
Primary Role: Provide daily living support and personal care at home.
Responsibilities: Assist with mobility, fall prevention, feeding, and medication management. Help with toileting, bathing, and diaper changes. Offer basic exercises, repositioning, and companionship.
In short, medical escorts focus on assisting with medical appointments and ensuring safe transportation, while personal care workers provide comprehensive daily living assistance and personal care.
